Reconnecting families to employment

Motherhood can be one of the most rewarding – and exhausting – jobs a person will ever do! But, for many who take time out of the workforce to raise a family, it can be challenging to reconnect to employment.

Roua Badawi, an Employment Consultant at Richmond, empowered Suzana Nesic into paid employment that worked around her family’s needs.

Suzana is a busy mother of four, and she first came to the Jobfind Richmond centre in May 2021. She told Roua her dream job was to be a childcare educator, but the work hours weren’t flexible enough for her family’s situation. Suzana was also studying a Diploma of Early Childhood Education & Care and working towards her goal.

Roua proposed a ‘Plan B’ that would allow her to reskill in an area with employment opportunities that met Suzana’s current situation. Then, when her children were old enough, she could complete her diploma and pursue a career as a childcare educator. It was a win-win!

At their initial appointment, Roua suggested the SisterWorks program to Suzana. SisterWorks is a non-profit that helps people from CALD backgrounds, and it has already helped a lot of Roua’s job seekers.

“I worked closely with Suzana through her journey with SisterWorks, and she has been thrilled to be part of such a program. She gained so much confidence and the industry experience she needed to obtain a job. I’m very proud of her!”

Through SisterWorks, Suzana gained her certificate in Food Handling via Zoom over two weeks. Suzana did go through a few ups and downs to find the role she enjoys, and she now works as a waitress.

“Working with Roua and Sisterworks has given me so much confidence now. I enjoy being around people, and the program allowed me to meet new people and network.”

Suzana plans to keep learning and has a keen interest in completing a barista course and RSA.
