Empowering our job seekers to realise their individual employment goals and ambitions is at the heart of what we do. We provide genuine care and service regardless of ability, race, ethnicity, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or economic status.

Our approach to delivering Disability Employment Services (DES) and NDIS supports is based on getting to know the individual’s capabilities and supporting them through their employment journey. Over the last year, Employment Consultant Melinda Bowen, successfully guided and empowered job seeker William Overmars along the path to employment.

One of the first things Melinda did when she met William was to find out his employment goals. It was a little tricky as he hadn’t had a job before and had no idea what he wanted to do. He also didn’t have a resume or had participated in a job interview before.

Melinda set to work on the basics. They put together a resume, practised interview questions and simulated a real-life interview using role-play. William was eager to learn and took part in all of his scheduled appointments and activities.

Next, Melinda assisted William in obtaining his forklift licence and connecting him with formal study after William expressed an interest in warehousing. He completed a Certificate III in Warehousing Operations through Alffie.

Once the basics were in place, it was on to the application and interview process. Melinda found a job at Tru-Fit Carpet and Vinyls as a factory hand in the warehouse. She put him forward for the role, and he got an interview and was then offered the position. It was a proud moment for Melinda, and of course, William was so excited!

Melinda says William is a pleasure to work with, and she is exceptionally proud of his progress.

“William is lovely. He always arrives to work with enthusiasm and is very polite and well-spoken. Since beginning employment, his confidence has grown immensely. He continues to learn and grow from his employment experience, and I’m so happy that I could assist him on his employment journey.”
