When Menka first came to Jobfind Airport West in April 2024, she was at a low point in her employment journey. Referred through Workforce Australia, she had experienced multiple setbacks that left her feeling unmotivated, disengaged and lacking the confidence to actively pursue work. Like many participants facing complex barriers, Menka needed more than just job leads she needed encouragement, tailored support and someone to believe in her potential.
Overcoming Barriers to Employment
Menka’s turning point began when she met Employment Consultant Selin Faour. From their first meeting, Selin approached Menka with compassion and understanding, immediately putting her at ease. Together, they identified the key challenges standing in Menka’s way: limited job-seeking skills, difficulty navigating the application process, low self-esteem, and anxiety around interviews. Menka also shared that she struggled with concentration, which further affected her ability to perform in workplace settings.
Selin reassured her that Jobfind would provide support every step of the way, and together they began working toward small, achievable goals that would rebuild Menka’s confidence and re-engage her in the job search process.
Tailored, Holistic Support
Understanding that Menka needed more than just employment assistance, Selin referred her to Healthfind, Jobfind’s in-house health and wellbeing service. Through regular sessions focused on mental health, confidence-building and resilience, Menka began to rediscover her self-worth. She also attended fortnightly appointments with Selin receiving personalised support in resume building, interview preparation, and job searching.
During one of their appointments, Menka shared a long-held aspiration, to become qualified and pursue a leadership role. Though self-doubt had always held her back, Selin recognised her potential and encouraged her to take the next step. Menka was soon enrolled in a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, a major milestone and a testament to how far she had come.
Turning Challenges into Growth
With her confidence growing and new skills under her belt, Menka secured an administrative position, an important achievement that validated her progress. However, lingering anxiety and self-doubt made it difficult for her to stay in the role and she eventually made the tough decision to leave.
Rather than viewing this as a setback, the Jobfind team rallied around her. Selin reminded her of how much she had already accomplished and reassured her that setbacks are part of the journey. Together, they focused on rebuilding her confidence and refining her employment goals, ensuring that her next role would be the right fit.
